Eyes watering, wobbly knees, heart racing, grinding teeth.
Listening to the shrieks in your scream.
Drops of fear glistening down my cheeks.
Rushing to the phone but you’d yell not to call the police.
Watching the pain in your cry.
Listening to the truth in your lies
Saying everything will be alright.
But the fights at night
Scarred me for life.
I was young but I knew
That love doesn’t mark purple and blue
I was young but all I wanted to do
Was save you.
In the eye of the hurricane
I was brave enough to stand strong
To stand between you both
Screaming “don’t touch mom!”
Protecting you because you were too weak.
Too weak to walk away and see
That he was hurting you
But you were hurting me.

This touched me so much because sadly I can identify with it. It is very well written, I felt every word!
Thank you so, so much. I am glad it touched you. That is the reason i write. ❤
Powerful lines here: “I was young but I knew / That love doesn’t mark purple and blue”.
Thank you so much! ❤
You’re welcome!

Very Powerful Poem on the Subject of Domestic Violence.
‘Love doesn’t mark purple and blue.’ Most Powerful, Wonderfully Poetic and Depictive words. Love and Peace to You, Erica. Am reblogging it.
Thank you so much. Much appreciated.
I can relate to your poem. Very vivid images and words. Both moving and sad that you had to live through this. I too know well the sound of fear and screams.
Well done.
Thank you so much for reading & your kind words ❤

Hard stuff, well written.
Thank you. <3!
Erika, This post made me cry. Not tears of sadness, but tears of knowing I’m not the only one who went through that as a child. No one should have to go through that. Violence is NOT the answer EVER. Thank you for posting this.
I am glad this touched your soul. Thank you for reading my friend. ❤
Again, Dictatorship vs Friendship. Too soon old, too late wise
Speechless because your expression touches so many souls, including mine.

Wow, thank you so much for the kind words.
❤
Sometimes we forget to share the light of another’s inspiration. Grief comes in all forms but feeling heard and acknowledge never comes quiet enough. So thank you for sharing a conceptual truth.
Speechless. I can relate from my childhood and I must say this hits home hard. Well done
Thank you so much for reading ❤
Oh my goodness, the last two lines hit me so hard.
Thank you for reading my friend.

Powerful and straight from the heart !!
Thank you so much ❤
You’re very welcome 🙂
Wonderful poem, but god-awful imagery! You make your point very well about a truly despicable act to commit!
Thank you so much.
Which is why women should learn self defense..
I agree.
Simplistic yet, vivid and touching
Thank you ❤
‘Like’ didn’t seem appropriate for this, somehow – but I did like it, in the sense that it’s powerful and effective. Excellent piece of writing. ‘Enjoy’ is the wrong word, again, in many ways, but nonetheless a rewarding read.
Thank you so much for reading and for your feed back. ❤
As someone who grew up in that kind of household, this poem speak to me. Thank you for writing and posting it.
If this poem touched you then it served its purpose. Thank you so much for reading ❤
Erika, I love the poem, it speaks volumes! I pray all is well with you dear sister! Hugs and blessings to you always!
Thank you so much. That is much appreciated. ❤
Powerful because terse. Well done.
Thank you.
Powerful stuff. And it resonates with truth…I know. Nicely done.
Thank you so much.
Very Powerful!
Thank you ❤
